More wind

We thought we had a short, easy ride of about 35 miles today, allowing us to spend a lot of time at the LBJ State and National Park.  (I never figured out how that works, but with our senior citizen National Park passes, we didn’t have to pay.). The 20 mile ride to the park was into a 16 to 20 mile an hour wind, so when we got there we were happy just to watch the movie and eat some lunch.  Fortunately the last third of the ride into Fredericksburg was easier, with only a cross wind blowing a bit more gently.

We have been on and off the Hill Country Trail since we left Austin.  We may not be out of the hills, but as we ride west and north tomorrow, we will be out of Hill Country.

We have seen a lot of these water gauges at low points on the road.  It’s hard to imagine water that high at a spot like this.

Another reason the ride after lunch was better—peach and blackberry cobbler topped with peach ice cream.  Best treat of the trip so far.

Some interesting road art, described as receptual art, a new term for me.

Of course I had to check out a bike store.  Cindy says that taking bikers to a bike store is like taking kids to a candy store.

And lest you forget you are in Texas while you are scraping the mud off your boots...
