A long, straight road

We have been riding the shoulder of US highway 87 for at least 3 days, including 45 very straight miles today into Lamesa, Texas.  For our last night in Texas we are at a very nice locally owned motel, much more our norm than last night’s splendor.  We had the best Tex-Mex meal of the trip at a little restaurant just down the street.

One of our California riders came along taking pictures of us yesterday.  I’m not nearly coordinated enough to attempt that—it would likely be the end of me and my phone.

An oil derrick in the middle of a field being plowed for cotton.  We saw a few groves of trees today like the ones in the background; they are windbreaks around farm compounds.

A nicely color-coordinated scene along the route.

We visited an interesting local museum which w opened just for us.  While we were looking around, a reporter from the local paper came by to interview us and take our picture.  We had delayed our start from Big Spring in the morning for a reporter who never showed up.  Score one for Lamesa.
