Western edge — August 21

We rode 48 miles to Lockport, the westernmost point of our trip.  For the next few days we will be riding the Erie Canal towpath on a section of the canal which is very much in use currently.  Today’s ride was a nice combination of rural roads, a rail trail, and a little of the Canalway.

Only about three miles into the ride, we came to a substantial ditch.  Yes, there was a detour sign, but we had hoped it would be after our turn instead of just before.

It look like a good year for cabbage.  Cabbage has a distinct aroma, which we came upon often today.

Our lunch spot was a very attractive gazebo along the rail trail.

                                                          A hazard of picnicking.

I suspect there will be lots of murals along the canal.  I’ll try not to take pictures of all of them.

Guess what,  There we’re so many people out for ice cream on a nice Saturday afternoon that we decided to ride on.  I did get a cone this evening after dinner.
