We arrived in St. Augustine on Saturday, February 9, giving ourselves time for some acclimatization and sightseeing before we head west tomorrow. I hope that being in the vicinity of the Fountain of
Youth is sufficient, as I was too cheap to pay the $15 entrance charge.
We did visit the Castillo San Marco, the oldest and largest masonry fort in the United States, well worth the time, and free with our wonderful senior National Park passes. And we even spent money for a tour of Flagler College, which was a magnificent turn of the last century hotel, and which contains marvelous carvings, chandeliers, and 79 Tiffany windows. It is now a freshman women’s dorm, and the students walk past this frog fountain to enter.
It is customary to put your bike wheel in the Atlantic as you set out on a westward cross country ride. It is also customary to have the wheel on the bike, but easier this way!
